This page catalogues information about rape rates per 100,000 population in the United States by demographics. By using rape rate instead of total number of rapes in a country, it gives us a better understanding of how common rapes are in a particular country. For example, 100 total rapes in a town of 1,000 people would produce a very high rape rate of 10,000 per 100,000 population. But 1,000 total rapes in a country of 1 million people, while a higher total number of rapes would result in a lower rape rate of 100 per 100,000 population.
